What to Expect on Your Birthing Day

What To Expect When You Arrive At Our Birthing Center?

Arrival and Warm Welcome

When the big day arrives, you'll be welcomed with open arms by our caring and compassionate staff as you arrive at Our Birthing Center no matter the time of day. We'll guide you to your private birthing suite, where you'll find a tranquil and inviting space designed to accommodate your needs and preferences throughout labor and delivery.

Who Will Attend Your Delivery

Since we follow an open model approach, clients will get prenatal care from their preferred, credentialed practitioner throughout their pregnancy. When it's time to give birth, your healthcare professional will meet you at the location (just like they would at home or a hospital). Your caregiver will be present for your labor and delivery. Our Birthing Center also employs Registered Professional Nurses, who will be supporting you throughout your birth journey.

Natural Procedure

Our Birthing Center provides you with a drug-free and intervention-free birthing experience. That's why our birthing facility is here. If you would like a physiological birth, the staff is dedicated to supporting you and has received training in guiding you through labor. At Our Birthing Center, epidurals are not offered. Instead, Our Birthing Center supports and encourages the use of natural pain relief methods including acupressure, hydrotherapy, walking, herbal remedies, and the use of nitrous oxide, which is available for our patients to use.

Mother-Child Bonding

Your newborn will stay with you following delivery, allowing for the most direct skin-to-skin contact. All newborn examinations happen in your room, saving you from having to remove your child from your arms.

Early Discharge

At Our Birthing Center, patients can be released as soon as two hours following childbirth and no later than 24 hours. After delivery, discharge usually occurs four to six hours later, with the understanding that if both you and your child are doing well, staying on is neither required nor desirable.

Your care provider will decide on the actual discharge time based on your specific situation. Within the first 24 to 48 hours following delivery, we will schedule a visit from a postpartum registered nurse to check on you and your baby and to provide necessary screening tests.

Family-Centered

At Our Birthing Center, we embrace a family-centered approach to childbirth, recognizing the importance of including your loved ones in the birthing experience. Whether it's your partner, family members, or a trusted support person, we welcome their presence and participation in this special moment. Any child attending delivery who is younger than 12 years old needs to be escorted by a support person who will take care of them.

Benefits Of Giving Birth at Our Birthing Center

Comfortable For All

Our birthing suites are completely private and have a queen bed, rocking chair, sit down shower, spacious tub, and other amenities for labor & delivery. With amenities such as adjustable lighting, comfortable furnishings, and spacious layouts, you'll have the freedom to move around and find positions that feel most comfortable to you during labor. Families can also add personal touches to the room, such as hanging photographs, lighting candles, or listening to their music. Waiting room is equipped with a comfortable couch, a TV and a kitchen for support persons supporting from outside the birthing suite.

Home Soon

Recovery is quicker at NY Birthing Center than at a hospital with fewer drugs and medical procedures. Compared to a typical 48+ hours stay at a hospital, most families leave the center for the comfort of their home within 4-8 hours following delivery.

Less Chance of a Cesarean Delivery

Approximately 26% of women with low-risk pregnancy who give birth at a hospital have a C-section compared to only 6% of women giving birth at a birthing center. Our Birthing Center does not offer C-sections, and in the very rare cases where one is required, we’re just a few minutes away from the Morristown Medical Center where we transfer our patients in need of this medical intervention.
